The two largest shopping centres in Europe are to be found within easy reach of Darlington. The Metro Centre at Gateshead is a complete shopping and entertainments complex with over 300 retail outlets, multi-screen cinema, fairground and antiques village. The Eldon Square Shopping Centre in Newcastle boasts the largest John Lewis and Marks and Spencer Foodhall outside London. At Teesside Park, between Middlesbrough and Stockton a large retail park and entertainments complex has also been developed in the last few years. Some of the attractions include a bowling alley, Laser Quest and a multi-screen cinema.
