St Margaret's Hospital
St Margaret's Hospital is a 133 bedded unit which is part of the Medical Directorate,
specialising in the care of the older person. Three wards provide acute rehabilitation and a
further three wards offer respite and slow stream rehabilitation. The Unit is supported by a
day therapy service which provides multi-disciplinary outpatient provision including clinic
and specialist care for older people with particular illnesses.
Nursing development in the Unit is maintained by a quality and training department. One
of the wards has taken part in a collaborative practice development project with the RCN
Nursing Institute in Oxford. Following this all clinical areas are now embarking on similar
development projects supervised against the Institute.
The unit is committed to providing the older person with a range of services utilising the
resources of money, location, manpower and expertise, sensitively cost-effectively and
applying and striving to achieve optimum standards of care.
